Global Advertising 1st Sponsors 10th Annual Toy Drive Benefiting DC Children and Families Affected by HIV/AIDS
WASHINGTON, DC, December 16, 2009 – In spite of overshadowing news coverage regarding the lack of care and services for DC children and families living with or affected by HIV/AIDS, local full-service marketing solutions firm, Global Advertising 1st (GA1) has joined forces with Majic 102.3, Brother to Brother Sister to Sister United, Inc. (BBSSU) and the Metropolitan Community Church (MCC) to offer a small but meaningful service to local families. On Thursday, December 17th beginning at 6 p.m., the award-winning agency will help host a holiday toy drive at Zanzibar on the Waterfront in DC. The toys will be given to children and families in Wards 7 and 8 who otherwise may not have any gifts to open or give this holiday season.
An annual event for GA1, in its 10th year, the toy drive benefits the Max Robinson Center which was named after the nation’s first African-American network news anchor who died of AIDS in 1988. The Max Robinson Center has been providing HIV/AIDS services for clients living in southeast DC since 1992.
“It’s heart-wrenching to see the difference in the quality of lives of the families separated just by the Anacostia River here in DC. I’m passionate about this initiative because I believe the families in Wards 7 and 8 deserve just as much as those in the more affluent neighborhoods across the river,” said Derrick Hollie, GA1 CEO. “We are proud to donate our time to help the Max Robinson Center uplift families in our community who have been affected by HIV/AIDS.”
This year’s toy drive will be held in conjunction with Majic 102.3’s “30 & Over Christmas Party” hosted by Toni Braxton. Anyone wishing to participate can go to www.mymajicdc.com, print a ticket and bring a new, unwrapped toy to Zanzibar on the Waterfront, 700 Water Street, SW Washington, DC 20024.
